Uttishtha 2017-The Annual E-Summit of IIM Kashipur inspires students to Dream, Develop and Disrupt

Entrepreneurship cell, IIM Kashipur hosted its annual conclave Uttishtha 2017. The summit was graced by the presence of entrepreneurs and industry stalwarts – Mr. Avnish Sabharwal, MD Accenture Ventures, Mr. Praveen Sinha; Cofounder of Jabong and Pincap; Rahul Singhal, Founder & CEO at Applop; Ms. Ami Shah, Cofounder of IntelliAssist; Mr.Kaushlendra Kumar, founder of Kaushalya Foundation and cofounder of Samriddhii and Mr. Ravi Ranjan, Head of Events Partnership at NASSCOM 10000 Startups.


The summit started with the lamp lighting ceremony which was followed by the welcome note by Prof. Safal Batra, Chairperson, Ecell, IIM Kashipur. He was ecstatic to announce that IIM Kashipur had received the in-principle approval for an Incubation Centre from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. He reminded the students that IIM Kashipur had 15 startups founded by its students within 5 years of inception of the institute and encouraged them to “Dream big, start small but start anyways.”


Dr. Gautam Sinha, Director, IIM Kashipur addressed the audience next. He urged the students to “be job providers and not job seekers.” He also conveyed the information that IIM Kashipur would be the first B-School in the country to have a commercial 3MW solar powerplant.

This was followed by 2 key note speeches. Mr. Avnish Sabharwal spoke about the general trends in the startup market and remarked that “small companies are coming up with point solutions and winning the market; this is a new competition faced by the industry giants.” Mr. Praveen Sinha gave general ideas of Dos and Don’ts while planning a startup and stressed that “a strong backend team and continuous cashflow are critical for success.”

A panel discussion ensued after a tea-break. The panelists advised the students “Ask yourself if this is what you really want to do. If the answer is yes, then the right time to start is today”. They also discussed that Startups look extremely fascinating, but it is tough. It requires a lot of grinding. It is important that one finds a co-founder with a complementary skill set for support.


The last keynote of the day was delivered by Mr.Kaushlendra Kumar who reminded that “startups are not all about money. Social entrepreneurships are equally important.” The gathering dispersed for lunch after the vote of thanks by Vaibhav Mangla, Secretary, Ecell.

The afternoon session saw the much-awaited B-Plan contest. 7 finalists selected from over 50 applicants from reputed institutes across the nation competed for the coveted prize of 50,000INR and goodies with opportunity for funding the idea. Team Torchit from PDPU, Gandhinagar, emerged victorious in this competition. Team Paradigm Shift of IIM Kashipur and  Team ZConnect of BITS, Goa, jointly secured the second position. Mr Avnish Sabharwal who announced the results urged the participants to focus more on market research before implementing their ideas

The summit has inspired the students to think, to dream and to plan and achieve the dream. Uttishtha 2017 lived upto its motto of Dream, Develop and Disrupt.

Agnitraya 4.0-The Annual Fest of IIM Kashipur Ends on a High Note

Agnitraya 4.0, the annual cultural, sports and management fest of IIM Kashipur came to an end on 5th November 2017. The three-day festival attracted students/participants from all across the nation. The inauguration ceremony of Agnitraya 4.0 was graced by Mr. Amit Verma, IFS and Director of Jim Corbett National Park, as the chief guest and Mr Ashish Gupta, MD of Ashish Builders and Developers as the Guest of Honour on 3rd November 2017.

Prior to the event, students of this institute organised “Tour to IIM Kashipur” for the students of the local schools around Kashipur with an idea to inspire them to pursue their goals by working hard to realize their dreams. Some of the notable schools, who visited the campus were

  1. Rajakiya Uccha Madhyamik Vidyalaya
  2. Rajakiya Inter-College
  3. Government Garh Secondary High School
  4. Jaspur Block, Udham Singh Nagar.


Agnitraya 4.0 offered a range of competitions starting from cultural to management. Notable cultural competitions were Solo Dance, Group Dance, Dance off, Fashion Show, T-Shirt Painting and Face Painting. Sports included Cricket, Futsal, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton and Table Tennis.  Brilliant minds battled for honor in the management events – “Markaholic” by marketing club, “Pragyan” by HR club and “Operatius” by the Operations club. The management event attracted participants from Reputed B-Schools like NITIE Mumbai, XLRI Jamshedpur, IMT Ghaziabad, IIM Amritsar, IMI Delhi, Fore School of Management Delhi, Department of Commerce, Delhi University and many more.

Finance club of IIM Kashipur organised ‘Outcry’, a mock trading competition which attracted a huge participation from all the finance enthusiasts. Aestimatus 4.0, organised by the Finance club was won by Team Finzards of IIM Indore. Team Biz cartel of IIFT Kolkata settled for a second spot.

‘The Rainmakers’ of IIM Kashipur emerged winners in Pragyan 2.0- the annual case study competition of HR Club. Team Enlighteners of Wellinker Business School came second followed by Team High Flying Blue (IIM Kashipur)/ Team Royal Girls (XLRI) who jointly came third.

 Team Strykerz, IMI Delhi emerged victorious in Consulting Knights- the pan India case study competition of Consulting club of IIM Kashipur. Team White Gold of IIM Kashipur was the first runner up followed by Team Crusaders – NITIE Mumbai and Team The Wall – XLRI Jamshedpur, who jointly came third.

Opstripple of SIBM Pune and Team Mavericks of IIM Kashipur were joint winners in Operatius- the annual pan India case study competition of the operations club of IIM Kashipur.


Glitz and glamour ruled cultural events as talents reached their fore with Dance performances from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi, KIET Ghaziabad, Gyanarthi Media College of Mass Communication & Animation, Kashipur, NIT Jalandar and more. Warm lights poured down from above, fixing the dancers in a moment of exaltation and yearning. It looked so simple but was difficult to put together in sync. SRCC were crowned winners in Solo Dancing, Dance off and Group Dance completions. BITS Noida not only won the Fashion show competitions but also the hearts of the audience by their creativity and innovation. IIM Kashipur was a hot to ‘The Chain Jokers’, who made the students laugh their hearts out after a day’s work of Day 1 on Agnitraya.



One of the major highlights of day 2 was when  alumni of the institute returned home to enjoy the fest and relive the campus life. This was the first ‘Homecoming’ for the Alumni at the New Campus of IIM Kashipur. The Session started with and introductory speech by Prof KumKum Bharti. Prof Kampan Mukherjee, Dean, Planning and Development delivered the welcoming speech. Welcome speech was followed by a speech by Prof Kunal Ganguly, Chair Placements, IIM Kashipur. An interaction session between the alumni and current students was held which was both fun and informative. Every alumnus shared their past experiences filled with nostalgia with their juniors.


SUNBURN returned to the campus with a brilliant performance. The Sunburn Campus was hosted by Teri Miko, a DJ of international repute. The dance, music and enjoyment summed up day two of the three-day Agnitraya 4.0.DSC_0272

The sports event conducted by IIM Kashipur under Agnitraya turned out to be a huge success. Various B-Schools from across the country turned for the event with huge contingents taking part in the list of thirteen events conducted by the institute. There were also competitions organised just for the girls to encourage an active women participation in various sporting activities. The events kickstarted on the 3rd of November, with certain competitions being played in the campus itself and remaining being conducted in the Kashipur Sports Stadium, with transport facility being provided in regular intervals between the campus and the stadium. The final event of Agnitraya 4.0 was Battle of Bands, where bands from across the nation competed for supremacy over one other. Some of the notable participating band were Neptune, Unknown Artist-The Band and Knight Shades. The event was judged and headlined by Parikrama, the first rock band of India.


IIM Kashipur witnessed some of the best talents and their creativity in this three-day fest. Students are now gearing up for the next big event of IIM Kashipur, TedX IIM Kashipur which is scheduled in January 2018.

Agnitraya 4.0 : Day 1

Splendid – would be the apt word to describe the first day of Agnitraya4.0. As various teams faced off each other in a variety of arts and sports events; the ambience in the campus was electric. In an auspicious start to the 3-day event, the inaugural lamp was lighted in the presence of a 300 plus audience including Chief Guest, Mr. Amit Verma, IFS and Director of Jim Corbett National Park, Guest of Honour Mr. Ashish Gupta, MD of Ashish Builders and Developers, faculty, students of IIM Kashipur, contestants from other institutes and school children from various schools in Kashipur who were in for a tour of the campus as part of Agnitraya 4.0.



Glitz and glamour ruled cultural events as talents reached their fore with Dance performances and Fashion Show. SRCC, Delhi emerged the winners in both the Solo Dance and Dance off contests. BITS Ghaziabad was crowned the fashionistas of the evening.



A fusion of fiery passion and sportsman spirit guided the teams in various sports events. A slightly proud host won the qualifiers of Carrom, Chess, Frisbee and Volleyball second match. St Xaviers’, Jaipur and IIM Kashipur won the qualifiers of Basketball and Volleyball first match.




A train of comedy by the “Chain Jokers” winded up the major events and was the highlight of the day. The best part is that it is a 24*7 live campus and there are several interesting games going on till Day 2 events start.


And last but not the least, it was a homecoming day for several alumni who proudly seeked their roots and returned to their alma mater for a three-day visit.
