Parivartan Club-IIM Kashipur organized Blood Donation camp on 29th July, 2014. Along with the Director Dr Gautam Sinha, 65 members of IIM Kashipur participated by donating their blood. This included faculty, students, administrative staff and others.

IIM Kashipur welcomes its fourth batch PGP 2014!!
Speaking on the Inauguration Ceremony Dr. Ghosh,Dean IIM Kashipur, said that we understand that students come here with two considerations. One – placements, and Two – Choice of place. “You will be equipped with success mantras here”, he said. “Organizations do not create jobs for you, it is for their own survival and growth and they need people, and they need the best ones. So what you would require is, “One – the basic understanding of the concepts of management, Two – on how to implement them in real life situations, and Three – the environment within which a manager works”, added Dr. Ghosh.

The new media has opened up umpteen possibilities of connecting a film to its audience cheaply and effectively. In the last five years the paradigm of marketing has undergone a revolution, making it possible for all genres of films to get a visibility. Participating teams may present out of the box marketing strategies or they may adopt strategies tried and tested before, to suit their purposes. The important thing is to present the right strategy for the right product/film.

MDP on Supply Chain Management

Management Development Programme (MDP) – 23 to 27 June 2014, on Supply Chain Management, was inaugurated today at IIM Kashipur campus. Objective of the MDP is to build a multi-disciplinary team of knowledge workers who can understand interdependence of various business functions and levers that drive their performance. This program will also enhance the understanding of the participants in various cross functional areas like marketing concepts, customer’s relationships, apart from that looking the whole business in the perspective of supply chain process.

Excelsior – PAN India Competition organized by IIM Kashipur

IIM Kashipur organized the first edition of Excelsior – A Multi-Domain Annual Management Fest of IIM Kashipur.

Excelsior in Latin means “ever upward”. In today’s world of cut throat competition, one needs to do the things differently yet persistently.  The wave of success follows the wave of hard and smart work. The dynamic business environment is pushing the business leaders to their limits.  Rightly said that these days there is nothing like competitive sustainable advantage! One needs to continuously adapt to the ever changing external environment and yet be competitive in the variables of control.

Excelsior ’14 was a microcosm of the corporate world where one was required to compete in an extremely tough environment to analyse corporate cases, play simulation games and emerge as a winner for survival! It was an amalgamation of six fields – Finance, marketing, consulting, operations, HR and IT.

Excelsior saw the coming together of the various clubs and committees of IIM Kashipur. The following competitions were held under this umbrella: 1. Infosys Auto Capek – an IT White Paper Competition 2. Bloomberg TraderX – a Finance Trading Competition 3. Mahindra Consilio – a Consulting Case Study Competition 4. Markaholic – a Marketing Case Study Competition 5. Operatius – an Operations Simulation Game Competition 6. Cynque – an HR Case Study Competition 7. Out of Syllabus – a General Quiz Competition 8. Excelsior’14 witnessed participation of around 3000 students from various institutes in India and some from abroad. Participants competed for a total of INR 250,000+ worth of prizes and PPIs from reputed organizations like Infosys, Bloomberg and Mahindra & Mahindra. The rigour and excitement was multiplied as the various rounds of competition progressed in each event; the enthusiasm peaked during the final showcase of talent and knowledge held on campus on 9th March, 2014.

The intensity of the mega IIM Kashipur management fest would live up to its name- Excelsior – ever upward!!

Guest Lecture: Mr. Nagaraju KB, COO at TVS Logistics Services Limited

IIM Kashipur welcomed Mr. Nagaraju KB, COO at TVS Logistics Services Limited. He is an IIM Calcutta alumni and had previously he has worked with Lenovo India Pvt Ltd and Transmart India Pvt Limited. Currently he is on sabbatical and working with an NGO. Coming from Operations field, Mr Nagaraju explained the students about “The Triple-A Supply Chain- Agility, Adaptability and Alignment”. He shared his experience in supply chain dictating the fact that Supply chain is a backbone to meet customer expectations. Along with arranging for logistics, supply chain very evidently includes planning and manufacturing. From his experience he compared the current scenario of industry with that in early 2000s. He said that the current industry is very demanding and the customers want product at their doorsteps at their preferred time. To achieve this managers have to necessarily go for a steep learning curve.

Mr Nagaraju explained the AAA supply chain model through experiences of his operations career in companies like Compaq India, Tata Motors, Lenovo, etc. He stressed upon the importance of localization of supply chain in order to achieve immediate demand of customized products by the consumers. He also very promptly answered queries of the students regarding supply chain and logistics. IIM Kashipur thanks him for his presence at the campus.

Media Conclave 2014

Recognizing the fact that the role of media in business is ever growing in today’s world, IIM Kashipur organized a Media Conclave on 15th February, 2014 (Saturday) to discuss the emerging role of media in various walks of life and business. The conclave had invited speeches and panel discussions from prominent dignitaries from media houses as well as some student presentations.

The eminent speakers and panelists included: Mr. Shailesh Shah, Secretary General, Indian Broadcasting Federation; Mr. Asad Mirza, Media Advisor and Editor, British High Commission; Mr. R. Srinivasan, Associate Editor, The Hindu Business Line; Mr. Subimal Bhattacharya, a globally recognized defence and cyber security expert, and; Mr. Anant Vijay, Deputy Executive Producer, IBN7.

Welcoming the distinguished media persons, representatives of the industry as well as corporate and social media sector, Dr. Gautam Sinha, the Director of IIM Kashipur, threw open this conclave open for debate and discussion. Despite mass media industry playing a significant role in highlighting the inequalities in wealth, power and privileges, he expressed concern about the growth of giant multinational media corporations holding enormous power and influence over the content and form by the owners of media. He raised some basic but very relevant questions to the participants of the conclave.

Inaugurating the conclave, Mr. Shailesh Shah, said that India is the biggest producer of films and entertainment media, and that we need to enhance our partnership into it. Further, he said that this industry has a capacity of a turnover of over $ 100 billion. This was followed by a presentation by the Students.

The Post-break session saw an intense panel discussion with panelists comprising of Shri Asad Mirza, Shri R. Srinivasan, Shri Subimal Bhattacharya, Shri Anant Vijay, and Prof. K. M. Baharul Islam, functioning as the moderator. The invited questions from amongst the audience added further value to the discussion, with some of the responses being noted down by many, and some witty ones inviting laughter.
